Urban Flow and Place: Reimagining Urban Transit Space Qualities through Urban Acupuncture and Placemaking

This book focuses on the topic of transit spaces, an issue that has become increasingly relevant amid the rapid development of transportation systems in Jakarta. Transit spaces are often perceived merely as areas of passage for commuters and public transport users. Yet, these spaces—shaped by the everyday movement of people—deserve deeper attention. The experience of users within transit environments should be understood as more than simply moving through; it involves how space is perceived, engaged with, and lived.

Through the Urban Architecture Studio, we seek to re-examine transit spaces not only as transitional zones, but as destinations that offer meaningful and enriching urban experiences. A series of research initiatives exploring the quality of transit spaces were conducted between 2023 and 2024. The insights and design explorations from these studies are presented in this chapter book.
